Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

Snacks

We are encouraging children to bring healthy foods, such as fruit, vegetables or yogurt, to school for snacks. A reminder that chips (i.e., Hot Cheetos®), candy, soda, etc., are not acceptable at school. Marshall also has a no gum rule.

Breakfast and Lunch

San Diego Unified School District serves a nutritious breakfast and lunch every school day. Marshall students qualify to receive free meals. Students are encouraged to eat breakfast and lunch daily at school. Breakfast is served in the classroom each day. Students eat while their teacher takes morning roll or reads announcements. When breakfast in the classroom is served, every student is able to start the school day ready to learn.

Each grade level has a designated lunch time (see Daily Schedule). From their classrooms, students will be led to the lunch area by teachers where they will line up quietly to choose healthy choices from the Kids Choice Café. Kid's Choice Café is an elementary healthy-choice breakfast and lunch program that encourages students to choose foods wisely and establish lifelong positive eating habits.

Once in the lunch area, students will walk to their tables with their food, remain there and eat in an appropriate manner until dismissed to the playground for recess by designated staff. Students will be dismissed to their classrooms when their lunch period ends.
